Pelister National Park, in collaboration with residents from Malovišta village and with support from volunteers and local organizations, has initiated the construction of a new multi-purpose facility next to the Church of St. Spas (1,886 m a.s.l.), situated beneath Vrtuška Peak (2,010 m a.s.l.).
Purpose and Strategic Importance
Vrtuška Peak and the St. Spas site rank among the most visited year-round destinations within Pelister National Park.
The new facility is designed to serve a dual purpose:

For Visitors: Providing shelter, rest, and safety from harsh weather conditions for hikers, pilgrims, and outdoor enthusiasts.

For Park Management: Housing monitoring equipment, supporting nature conservation initiatives, and serving as an operational base for ranger patrols.
Progress and Field Operations
Construction is progressing steadily under challenging high-altitude conditions:

Building materials, tools, and timber were transported to the site at 1,886 m a.s.l. using pack horses, followed by a one-hour hike by the team.

The wooden frame structure has been assembled and erected.

Local stone was sourced on-site to level and reinforce the flooring.
Public Call for Volunteers
Work will continue over the coming weekends. To support the timely completion of the structure, Pelister National Park invites hikers, nature lovers, and community volunteers to join upcoming work sessions.
