Ahead of the great feast of St. Anna, the employees of Pelister National Park, together with the hardworking local population of the village of Malovishta, successfully landscaped the second access path leading to the monastery complex. The goal of this action is to ensure safe and easier access for the thousands of believers and visitors.
A Tradition That Lives Through the Centuries
The village of Malovishta (1,170 m a.s.l.), as the only inhabited settlement within the National Park, becomes the center of spiritual life in the region every year on August 6th and 7th. The nighttime ascent through the dense beech forest to the “St. Anna” Monastery (1,400 m a.s.l.) is an authentic event that represents the specific cultural identity and centuries-old tradition of this region.
Hospitality and Tastes of Malovishta
As a token of gratitude for the support, our team was warmly welcomed into the home of the Paligora family. We had the rare privilege of tasting traditional Pitá di burbunacá (sorrel pie), a recognizable specialty that reflects the rich Vlach cultural identity and culinary heritage of the village.
New Perspectives for Eco-Active Tourism
This action is just the beginning of a new, enhanced cooperation between Pelister National Park and the residents of Malovishta. Our goal is to maximize the potential of this unique village with its stone houses and cobblestone streets, in order to develop sustainable eco-tourism and preserve cultural heritage as an inseparable part of the national park.
