One of the most attractive motor activities in Pelister National Park is the off-road jeep tour offering an alternative, faster access to the high-mountain belt and glacial lakes known as ‘Pelister Eyes’.

Detailed Tour & Activity Description

Start and Off-Road Driving:

The adventure typically starts from the lower points of the park (Info Center / Hotel Molika) and proceeds along an unpaved mountain road. The drive takes about 2.5 hours one-way, passing through dense belts of the endemic five-needle Molika pine, with great opportunities to observe the park’s rich wildlife along the route.

Pelister Eyes (Glacial Lakes):

The main destination features the two glacial lakes. Golemo Ezero is nestled in a cirque at 2,218 meters above sea level, standing as one of the largest glacial lakes in the country with dimensions of roughly 220 by 190 meters and a depth of 15 meters. Nearby (at 2,180 m) lies the smaller Malo Ezero.

Panoramic Views & WWI History:

A short guided walk around the lakes leads to a unique vantage point in the park where all 24 peaks of Pelister higher than 2,000 meters are visible. This location also unveils breathtaking views toward Lake Prespa, the Pelagonia Valley, and the authentic World War I trench lines of the Macedonian Front.

Dimitar Ilievski – Murato Mountain Hut:

Situated right next to Golemo Ezero, the mountain hut offers 6 rooms with varying capacities (4 to 12 beds), totaling 30 beds and around 20 additional mattresses, alongside a large heated dining hall. It provides an ideal space for resting, refreshment, or overnight stays under the starry alpine sky.
