The Babari in Capari are not just masked characters, but guardians of the centuries-old rhythm that marks the beginning of the New Year with wishes for health, happiness, and an abundant harvest.
The Magic of the Procession Through the Capari Neighborhoods
What makes the carnival in Capari unique is the very way the event unfolds. Everything begins in the center of the village, where the first masks mark the start with traditional music. As the procession moves through the narrow alleys of all the village neighborhoods, it constantly expands—masked individuals join the Babari from their homes, creating a river of colors, sounds, and masks. This year, over 70 authentic masks and around 1,000 guests are expected, making Capari one of the most visited centers for Vasilica celebrations in the region.
