In the heart of Pelister National Park, a major simulation-demonstration drill titled “Tackling Large-Scale Open-Air Wildfires” took place. Realized in cooperation with the Municipality of Bitola, this exercise aimed to test and improve the readiness of all competent services to protect our natural heritage.
Exercise Goals and Field Operationalization
The main focus was placed on improving speed and efficiency in tackling open-air fires. Through the establishment of a unified incident command system, the Municipal Protection and Rescue Headquarters practiced decision operationalization and the integration of additional local forces during critical moments.
Evacuation, Triage, and Medical Assistance
In addition to firefighting, the drill also encompassed the organization of population evacuation measures from endangered areas. Special teams conducted simulations of triage and first aid administration, rounding out the entire rescue process and care for human lives during natural disasters.
Institutional Cohesion and Strong Coordination
This activity was the result of a joint organization between Pelister National Park and the Municipality of Bitola, with the support of the Crisis Management Center (CMC). The participation of local and regional resources contributed to strengthening inter-institutional cohesion, which is a key factor for successful coordination during real-world threats.
