This linear trail (ascent and descent along the same route), locally known as the “Debel Rid” trail, leads from the Nizhe Pole weekend settlement to the glacial Golemo Ezero, with an option to continue to Veternica Peak.

Detailed Trail Description

Start and Forest Belt:

The trail starts from the Nizhe Pole weekend settlement (1,156 m). The first segment of the route moves through an oak forest up to an altitude of about 1,500 meters.

High-Mountain Pastures and Shortcuts:

Upon exiting the forest belt, the vegetation changes and the terrain transitions into open space with alpine pastures. Along the route, there are several shortcuts that continuously diverge and reconnect with the main marked trail. Most of the route is an unpaved mountain dirt trail.

Golemo Ezero and Mountain Hut:

The trail leads directly to the shore of Golemo Ezero (2,218 m). Located right at the site is the “Dimitar Ilievski – Murato” mountain hut, which is open to visitors during weekends from May through October.

Veternica Peak (2,416 m):

From the lake, the route continues to Veternica Peak. This peak provides a clear view of Golemo Ezero itself, Pelister Peak, Lake Prespa, as well as mountain massifs in Greece, Albania, and the broader region of Macedonia.
