To mark World Rivers Day, the Pelister National Park Info Centre hosted an interactive educational workshop featuring primary school students from “Dame Gruev” Bitola.
Educational Lectures and Student Projects
The event was structured into two modules focused on aquatic ecosystem conservation:
- Introductory Presentation: Students learned about the importance of river protection and the diverse flora and fauna within Pelister that depend on freshwater ecosystems.
- Group Project Work: Participants were divided into four teams to create educational posters dedicated to Pelister’s major rivers: Crna, Caparska, Sapuncica, and Semnica.
- Educational Quiz: The workshop concluded with an interactive 10-question quiz about each river system, where correct answers unlocked visual stickers to finalize each group’s project display.
Hands-on educational activities like these reinforce environmental awareness and encourage youth participation in nature protection.
Institutional Framework and Partners
The workshop was implemented under the project “Green and Blue Prespa Initiative – Strengthening Protection through Research, Education, and Communication,” funded by the European Union through the “EU for Prespa” program and co-funded by the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT).
Project implementation partners include the Macedonian Ecological Society (MES), Municipality of Resen, Galicica National Park, Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP, Greece), and Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA), supported by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and Pelister National Park.
