May in Pelister National Park was marked by intense activities – we opened our doors to new generations of researchers, initiated a crucial process to save the Macedonian pine (molika), and dedicated ourselves to scientific biodiversity research.
An Open-Air Classroom for Young Students
We successfully implemented environmental education for 696 students from primary and secondary schools in Bitola, Demir Hisar, and Kavadarci. Through the “Eco-Trophy Hunt” game, children learned about Pelister’s forest family, explored the micro-world through microscopes, and created works of art using the colors of nature. This massive turnout is proof that environmental awareness among young people is steadily growing.
Revitalization of the Old Molika Pine Forest
We have officially launched protection and restoration measures for our signature Macedonian pine (molika) forest. Under the supervision of experienced staff and experts, the removal of damaged and diseased trees is being carried out. This process is essential for maintaining the forest’s vitality and its long-term preservation for future generations.
Scientific Monitoring: The World of Bats
In cooperation with Galicica National Park, we conducted field research and education dedicated to the biology and ecology of bats. Through modern research methods, we continue to uncover the secrets of these significant inhabitants of our mountains, strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in the name of science.
